Linear Interpretive Model (LIM) Characteristics

LIM is more rigorous form of ISM. This tool is suitable for desktop use when there is no time pressure to reduce the number of votes required to complete the model. Depending upon the model, it may require in the range of 30% to 40% more votes to complete the model. This makes the model more suitable for situations that require a rigorous model that has low to moderate number of elements(ideas). LIM is a better choice than ISM when there is no time pressure for constructing the model and a high degree of accuracy and robustness is important. (For further details please refer to the ConceptStar User Manual version 3)

Technical details of Linear Interpretive Model tool (LIM)

  • A Yes vote means a significant relationship exists in the indicated direction. The relationship may be direct or indirect.
  • A no vote means that a direct relationship does not exist. An indirect relationship is possible, depending on the other relationships entered.
  • LIM looks just like an ISM and is interpreted in the same manner. LIM can replace ISM directly when there is no requirement to reduce the number of votes needed to complete the model.
